About the Captain

Capt. Brey has been fishing most of his life in South Florida where there are 300+ fishable days a year. He takes advantage of a large number of those days to spend at least a few hours on the water.

His favorite fishing is for inshore species such as bonefish, permit, tarpon, and snook. But he is equally skilled in offshore fishing for sailfish, dorado, etc. And let’s not forget the numerous wrecks and reefs off Miami loaded with snapper and grouper.

He fishes primarily in South Biscayne Bay. This area is surprisingly pristine despite its proximity to a huge metropolitan area. It’s not at all uncommon to see a school of 7-9 pound bonefish tailing in the foreground against the Miami skyline. Biscayne Bay bonefish average larger than in many other fisheries, frequently running into the double digits. Throw in a large number of permit to 40+ pounds and you have an incredible sight fishing destination.

Now these fish aren’t stupid. They receive a fair amount of pressure from local anglers and guides. But Capt. Brey has the experience and skills to get an angler into position for a shot. Then it’s up to the angler.

Capt. Brey also fishes in Everglades National Park. People come from all over the world just to see the alligators, mangroves, and tremendous variety of bird life. The plentiful sea trout, redfish, snook, tarpon, jacks, sharks, snappers, and ladyfish ensure that an angler will never get bored. It is truly a unique ecosystem and should be experienced at least once by anyone who enjoys fishing.

Capt. Brey has been fortunate enough to fish with some of the finest anglers in South Florida who are arguably among the best in the world. He likes nothing more that sharing his extensive fishing knowledge with others. He gets more satisfaction out of seeing a flats fishing newbie catch their first bone than he does in catching one himself.

He is equally comfortable with spin, plug, or fly tackle and is quite capable of teaching the latter to beginners, though it would be better to arrange lessons before booking a charter. Time on the water in the presence of tailing bonefish is a little precious to be learning the basics of saltwater fly fishing.

Whatever your chosen target, Capt. Brey’s enthusiasm and passion for fishing will ensure a memorable and enjoyable adventure.
